Tom Brokaw has been diagnosed with cancer, NBC News announced Tuesday.
The veteran newsman was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in August at the Mayo Clinic but says he is “optimistic” about his recovery prognosis.
“I remain the luckiest guy I know,” Brokaw said in a statement released by the network.
“With the exceptional support of my family, medical team and friends, I am very optimistic about the future and look forward to continuing my life, my work and adventures still to come,” the statement said.
Brokaw, who turned 74 last week, first joined NBC News in 1966 and now serves as a special correspondent for the network.
