SOCHI, Russia (AP) - Canada and the Netherlands are showing that when they win in Sochi, they dominate their sport.
Canada picked up two more freestyle ski medals while the Dutch swept a long track speedskating race at 500 meters to make the countries the top medal movers on the third day of title competition, moving them to the top of the medal standings after 18 events.
Canada’s freestyle ski medals came on the men’s ski moguls, where Alex Bilodeau and Mikael Kingsbury took gold and silver. The results matched Canada’s Day 1 effort on the women’s side.
The Dutch sweep on Monday night led by gold medalist Michael Mulder matched the country’s showing at 5,000 meters.
Canada and the Netherlands were the only countries to win three medals each on Monday, while France won its first two and Russia added two bronzes.
China added its first medal of the Sochi Games with silver in the 1,500-meter short track.
And Norway, after starting off strong its first two days, went without a medal.
Eight more medal events are scheduled for Tuesday.
