ESPN.com reports that Curt Schilling’s daughter says the former pitcher is recovering from surgery.
Schilling announced last week that he is battling cancer. The website on Tuesday posted a tweet from Gabby Schilling the day before that read: “Dads surgery went really well! Now he’s in recovery.”
The 47-year-old Schilling revealed his illness last Wednesday in a statement released through ESPN. He did not say what type of cancer he has, when he was diagnosed or what his prognosis might be.
Schilling, who retired in 2009 after 20 years in the majors, is taking a leave of absence from his job as a baseball analyst for ESPN.
A six-time All-Star, Schilling won 216 games and struck out 3,116 batters while pitching for five teams during his big league career. He won World Series championships with the Arizona Diamondbacks (2001) and Boston Red Sox (2004, 2007).
