NEW ALBANY, Ind. (AP) - A southern Indiana judge has entered not guilty pleas for a teenager facing counts of three felony murder for allegedly firing a flare into a home and igniting a fire that killed three young siblings.
Cody Cashion of New Albany made his initial court appearance Tuesday in Floyd Superior Court, where Judge Susan Orth entered the pleas for him on the murder charges and a single count of arson.
The News and Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1bKkjFn ) Orth declined to set bail for Cashion, citing information provided by prosecutors during a closed probable cause hearing.
The Jan. 4 fire killed three members of the Hughes family: 2-year-old Trinity, 4-year-old Tyrese and 6-year-old Tai’zah Hughes. Another child, 5-year-old Taty’ana, was injured.
Orth said she would assign a public defender to represent Cashion.
