CHICAGO (AP) - Authorities are investigating after an off-duty sheriff’s officer shot and killed a man during an attempted robbery on Chicago’s South Side.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports (https://bit.ly/1elO8M2 ) the shooting happened around 10 p.m. Monday after the sergeant was approached by three men while he was getting gas.

Investigators say the trio demanded the officer’s wallet and then pointed a gun at him.

That’s when the officer drew his own weapon and shot one of the men in the head. Investigators say the other two ran off.

Chicago Police say Tuesday that no arrests have been made yet.
