Nancy Motes, 37, the half-sister of Hollywood actors Julia and Eric Roberts, was found dead inside a bathtub at the Los Angeles house where she had been pet-sitting, the seeming victim of a drug overdose.
Ms. Motes and Ms. Roberts, who share a mother, had a rocky relationship, the New York Daily News reported. John Dilbeck, Ms. Motes’ fiancée, discovered her body at the home and called emergency responders.
Investigators suspect she died of a drug overdose, but an autopsy is being conducted to confirm cause of death, the New York Daily News reported.
Los Angeles County Chief of Coroner Investigations Craig Harvey said to the newspaper that Ms. Motes “was found in a bathtub that contained water. There were prescriptions and nonprescription drugs found at the scene. The role the drugs may or may not have played is not yet known.”
Ms. Motes hailed from Georgia. In August, she gave an interview that described how Ms. Roberts would subject her to cruel teases about her weight.
“When I was in high school and she was an adult, she would just let me know that I was definitely overweight,” Ms. Motes said during the interview, the New York Daily News reported. “It just makes me feel incredibly hurt and very sad.”
Ms. Motes also tweeted a few weeks ago a harsh statement about Ms. Roberts: “So my ’sister’ said that with all her friends & fans she doesn’t need anymore love. Just so you all know ’America’s Sweetheart’ is a [expletive].”
