ST. LOUIS (AP) - Former St. Louis corrections commissioner Gene Stubblefield is suing the city, claiming racial bias led to his firing in 2012.
Stubblefield filed a federal lawsuit against the city Monday, alleging wrongful termination.
Mayor Francis Slay removed Stubblefield from the job after several escapes and financial troubles in the department. The city Civil Service Commission upheld Stubblefield’s firing in August 2012.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports (https://bit.ly/1jsxPoX ) Stubblefield filed an employment discrimination complaint in federal court alleging he was targeted because he is black. He also alleged that white employees were not fired for committing the same misconduct that Stubblefield says he was wrongly accused of committing.
A spokeswoman for Slay said she couldn’t comment because she had not seen the lawsuit.
