NEW YORK (AP) - Colorado Avalanche defenseman Erik Johnson has been suspended by the NHL for two games without pay on Tuesday for slashing New York Islanders forward Frans Nielsen.

The incident occurred at 12:09 of the third period of Colorado’s 5-2 win on Saturday. Johnson was assessed a minor penalty for slashing.

It was Colorado’s last game before the Olympic break. The Avs’ next game will be Feb. 26 against Los Angeles.
