An al Qaeda-linked group in Syria has reported that a British national was involved in a suicide bombing — the first U.K. jihadist attack of that nature, if the report is confirmed to be true.

Al-Nusra Front claims that Abu Suleiman al-Britani of Sussex died after driving a truck laden with explosives into the building, the BBC reported.

The jailbreak reportedly resulted in roughly 300 inmates escaping, but the Syrian government denies that report, the BBC said.

The United Nation’s estimates that more than 100,000 Syrians have died since the nation’s civil war began in 2011.
