CHICAGO (AP) - White House senior adviser Valerie Jarrett is in Chicago to speak with business and community leaders about President Barack Obama’s plans for boosting the economy.
Jarrett is scheduled to speak Monday morning. She’s being joined on a panel by Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Gosvenor Capital Management CEO Michael Sacks and University of Chicago President Robert Zimmer.
The panel is titled “Strong Cities, Strong Nation.” The discussion is hosted by the mayor and World Business Chicago.
Earlier this month, Obama called for making 2014 “a year of action” to speed up growth and create more opportunities. He announced the creation of more high-tech manufacturing hubs where universities and businesses would work together to develop and train workers. And the president announced new commitments from companies to consider hiring the long-term unemployed.
