MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Minnesota Timberwolves coach Rick Adelman missed Monday night’s game against the Houston Rockets due to personal reasons.
While Adelman was away from the team, forward Kevin Love planned to be back in the lineup after missing one game with a bruised left quadriceps.
Adelman is expected back on the sideline for Wednesday’s game against Denver. Assistant coach Terry Porter was set to serve as acting head coach for the game against the Rockets.
In his third year as Minnesota’s coach, Adelman missed 11 games in January 2013 to help his wife, Mary Kay, as she suffered from seizures. Minnesota was 2-9 in those games.
“For me and the rest of the coaching staff, it’s the same,” Porter said. “The consistency that we try to keep with the guys in regards to the game, the flow of the game, pregame stuff, postgame stuff.”
Love missed Saturday’s 117-110 loss to Portland after he was kneed in the fourth quarter of Friday’s loss in New Orleans. The All-Star is averaging 31.5 points and 15.5 rebounds in his last six games.
“The rest did me some good. I can bend the leg a little bit more,” Love said. “I’m still not 100 percent, but I’m going to go out there and give it a go.”
With center Nikola Pekovic out since Jan. 27 with bursitis in his right ankle, Love has taken more of a pounding as Minnesota’s go-to player down low. Love, an All-Star starter, also missed last Wednesday’s game with a stiff neck after taking a hard fall the previous night against the Lakers.
