GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - The threat of winter weather has postponed an appearance by former Atlanta Braves star Chipper Jones the Upstate Diamond Classic at Furman.
The former National League MVP was scheduled to be the featured speaker. Furman baseball coach Ron Smith said the event would be rescheduled.
South Carolina is expecting a wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain over the next few days.
Jones spent his 17-year career with the Braves before retiring after the 2012 season.
The Upstate Diamond Classic is Furman’s annual start to the baseball season and has featured baseball greats like Tommy Lasorda, John Smoltz and Phil Niekro.
