HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny DuPree says it will be at least March before he will present department head candidates for City Council approval.

DuPree, who was elected to a fourth term after a September special election, initially said he had hoped to present candidates for appointment in January, but delays in the interviewing process had pushed the date back.

The Hattiesburg American reports (https://hatne.ws/1dBsVOh) 15 candidates who potentially could lead the city departments or be tapped for municipal court positions appeared before the council Jan. 15 and Jan. 17.

The expectation was that many, if not all, would be brought forward for approval in February.

But DuPree said he did not anticipate that being on the Feb. 17-18 agenda for the council’s second February meeting.
