CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) - Harvard University says a student has died and others have been injured in a traffic accident in New Jersey as their van was returning from a weekend competition in Virginia.
Interim undergraduate Dean Donald Pfister said in an email to students on Monday that junior Angela Mathew was killed and other students were hurt, one seriously. They were members of the Harvard Mock Trial Association.
The association’s website says Mathew, from Albuquerque, N.M., was a director for its high school seminars.
Pfister said Mathew was “a very bright, talented young woman” who was studying neurobiology. He said “our hearts are broken.”
New Jersey State Police First Sgt. Gregory Williams told the student newspaper the Harvard Crimson that three other students were injured in the 12:35 a.m. crash on the New Jersey Turnpike.
