FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) - Florence County will recover $1.5 million in incentives used to lure a Heinz food processing plant that makes frozen dinners but that now is closing.

The Morning News of Florence reports (https://bit.ly/NsWRaq ) that local development officials have confirmed a settlement has been reached on the incentives.

Heinz was offered $2 million in incentives to locate a $105 million facility which opened in August of 2011. The county gave Heinz a $1.4 million discretionary grant for development and a $600,000 site acquisition grant.

But in January of 2013 Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway and 3G Capital announced they were acquiring Heinz in a $28 billion deal. The plant will be closing this spring.
