LONDON (AP) - The English Football Association has charged Craig Bellamy after the Cardiff striker appeared to punch an opponent, but Manchester City’s Yaya Toure has escaped retrospective action for an apparent kick in another Premier League game.
A panel of three former referees decided that Bellamy striking at Swansea midfielder Jonathan de Guzman in Saturday’s south Wales derby constitutes violent conduct.
Bellamy, who faces a three-match ban, has until Tuesday to respond to the charge.
But the panel could not agree that Toure should be charged with violent conduct for kicking at Norwich striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel on Saturday.
That means the defender remains eligible as City chases glory in the Premier League and FA Cup domestically.
