ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) - Construction crews have begun widening 10 miles of Interstate 26 southeast of Columbia.

An additional stretch of 11 miles of the interstate linking the mountains and the sea is being repaved and improved.

Construction on the $76 million project is to be completed in July of next year. The work includes widening to six lanes a 10-mile stretch of the interstate from the I-77 interchange south of Columbia southeast to Old Sandy Run Road.

An additional 11 miles of I-26 to state Highway 6 will be repaved but not widened.
