LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Dentistry students, faculty and staff from the University of Nebraska Medical Center will be providing free dental care to Nebraska children.
The students are offering the free screenings on Friday at the UNMC’s Lincoln-based College of Dentistry. Children from Lexington and surrounding communities, Norfolk, Madison, Stanton, Wayne, Crete, Hastings, York and Lincoln will participate.
College dean John Reinhardt says the intent is to help underserved children. He says tooth decay can affect a child’s ability to eat, speak and adapt socially.
UNMC has been offering the program for the past 12 years. The university says students have provided more than $2 million in dental services to nearly 5,000 children.
