SEATTLE (AP) - A Shoreline woman who fatally stabbed her boyfriend and then fled with their two young daughters apologized to his family in court.

The Seattle Times reports (https://is.gd/FnVGQk) 29-year-old Doreen Starrish was sentenced on Friday to 14 years in prison for the 2012 killing of 27-year-old Aaron C. Smith. Starrish was convicted last month by a jury of second-degree murder with a deadly weapon and heroin possession.

Starrish tearfully told her family and the victim’s family she was sorry.

The couple had a history of violence and abuse that included a misdemeanor assault charge against Smith and a domestic-violence-protection order barring him from contacting Starrish that was in effect at the time of the slaying.
