YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) - A northeast Ohio congressman is getting star treatment over his practice of mindfulness.

Democrat Tim Ryan of the Youngstown area calls mindfulness a meditative practice that focuses on the present moment instead of worrying about the past or future.

Time magazine’s latest cover story on the practice says Ryan is “a rock star among mindfulness evangelists.” He has written a book on the practice and pitched it on Capitol Hill.

Ryan helped land a $1 million grant in 2009 for Youngstown and Warren schools to teach mindfulness to elementary students.

The Vindicator of Youngstown (bit.ly/1fk32XR) says Ryan also appeared last May on the cover of the magazine Mindful.
