EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - State police say a trooper and a New Jersey National Guard member helping with security for the Super Bowl were injured when their patrol vehicle crashed at MetLife Stadium.

It wasn’t clear what caused the crash, which occurred near a parking lot around 5:30 a.m. Saturday. Authorities say the trooper was driving when the vehicle struck a fence and a tree.

Both men suffered “moderate injuries” and were being treated at a hospital. But further details on their conditions were not disclosed.

New Jersey National Guard spokesman Patrick Daugherty told The Star-Ledger (https://bit.ly/MK3F37) that the guard member was assigned to patrol outside the stadium with the trooper. The man is among hundreds of guard members who are working with law enforcement agencies to provide perimeter security for the game.
