FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - The National Weather Service says more than 2 1/2 feet of snow fell last month on Fort Wayne, making it the snowiest month ever recorded in the state’s second-largest city.
Fort Wayne had 30.3 inches of snow in January, breaking the previous record of 29.5 inches set in 1982.
The weather service says last month not only ranked as Fort Wayne’s snowiest January on record, but the snowiest month on record in the city.
Last month’s Fort Wayne snow total was 19.3 inches above normal.
The city’s average January temperature was 17 degrees, or nearly 8 degrees below normal, due in part to 10 days where temperatures fell below zero. January 2014 was Fort Wayne’s 10th-coldest January on record.
