PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rafael Maia scored 18 points and gathered 12 rebounds and Brown shut down Columbia in the final minutes, winning 64-56 on Saturday night.

Brown (11-7, 3-1 Ivy League) led Columbia 28-26 at the break, but Columbia took a turn in front at the start of the second period after registering an 8-2 rally and leading 34-30.

Both teams etched out brief leads over the course of the second half and Maia ended a 2-minute long 49-point deadlock with a three-point play on a layup to lead 52-49 with 6 minutes left.

The Bears never trailed again as Columbia (13-8, 2-2) suffered costly turnovers and missed four 3-point attempts down the stretch and were unable to stay with Browns more consistent finish.

Maodo Lo paced the Lions with 13 points. Alex Rosenberg and Luke Petrasek added 12 apiece.

Cedric Kuakumensah added 13 points for Brown while Sean McGonagill scored 10.
