Walgreens in Southern California has pulled from its store shelves Hanukkah wrapping paper in gold that contained blue weavings in the shape of Nazi swastikas.
The wrapping paper came to light after an alert shopper saw the design and “panicked,” she said, United Press International reported.
“I saw it immediately,” said Cheryl Shapiro, to KABC. “I think I have a good eye. I panicked. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.”
Ms. Shapiro called her rabbi and then complained to managers.
Walgreens shortly after took action — but did not comment.
“We are in the process of removing the product from our stores,” one Walgreens official said to NBC4.
But Ms. Shapiro said she’s still upset.
“I came home, and I spoke to my rabbi,” she said, UPI reported. “He couldn’t believe it. I’m still very upset about it, that something like this could be on the market.”
Ms. Shapiro found the offending wrap at the Walgreens in the Northridge area of Los Angeles.
