The race for the Ward 4 and Ward 8 seats on the D.C. Council has officially begun.
Prospective candidates picked up nominating petitions Monday for the two seats — one vacated by Muriel Bowser in Ward 4 when she won election as mayor last month and another that opened upon the death of Marion Barry, who represented Ward 8.
The six candidates vying for the Ward 4 seat are Acqunetta Anderson, Bruce Morrison, Pedro Rubio, Douglass Sloan, Bobvala Tengen and Brandon Todd.
The race for Mr. Barry’s Ward 8 seat was more crowded with nine contenders: Greta Fuller, Darrell Gaston, LaRuby May, Anthony Mohammad, Edwina Montaque, Sandra Seegars, Leonard Watson, Natalie Williams and Lydia Little.
To appear on the ballot, prospective candidates will have to collect 500 signatures from registered voters who reside in their ward by Jan. 28. The election for both council seats is scheduled for April 28.
