Linda Sanchez, the incoming chairwoman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, said President Obama has done OK on immigration so far — but hardly great.
In fact, she gives him a B+, Politico reported.
“There are areas in which we obviously would have liked to see more done on immigration,” she said in an interview on “Newsmakers” that just aired on C-SPAN. “Clearly the president is limited by certain legal precedents, but we think overall he’s been very receptive on that issue.”
She issued the grade for his full six years in office so far. The Congressional Hispanic Caucus, as a whole, has pushed Mr. Obama to enact immigration reform for quite some time and wanted him to wield his White House club for even more sweeping changes in policy.
But all in all, he’s been “far, far far more receptive than the Republican leadership in the House, in their delay and stalling tactics,” Ms. Sanchez said, Politico reported. “I think the president has been solid. I think he understands the issue. I think he fundamentally understands what’s at stake for the Hispanic community and so overall, I think he’s done a pretty decent job.”
