Social media is tweeting about the latest British police buys — a new fleet of patrol cars, clearly marked with the misspelled identification moniker, “POLCE.”
From one, with the Twitter handled UK Cop Humour: “Dear South Yorkshire Police, we love you guys and we know times are tough, but dropped the ’i’ from ’Police’ is …,” United Press International reported.
The South Yorkshire police themselves poked fun at the mistake, posting on its Twitter website this caption above a picture of the at-issue “POLCE” car: “WANTED Have you seen our ’I’?” The text below the photo went on: “Last seen at the printers. He is described as being tall, lean and blue. He is much missed by the force who require his immediate return to complete their investigations,” UPI said.
A spokesman for the police department said the spelling error was caught immediately.
“The spelling error was identified immediately by staff who took delivery of the new vehicles,” he said, UPI reported. “The error was rectified the following day.”
