Patricio Garino scored 21 points and George Washington topped Charlotte 78-70 on Sunday.
Garino was 10-of-14 shooting but missed both of his 3-point attempts. Kethan Savage had 15 points and seven rebounds, Joe McDonald added 11 points, eight boards and seven assists and Kevin Larsen chipped in with 10 points for the Colonials (5-2), which shot 57 percent — including 5 of 9 beyond the arc.
Charlotte (4-4) was paced by Braxton Ogbueze with 25 points. Pierria Henry had 13 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Willie Clayton had a game-high 14 boards.
George Washington trailed by three with 5:16 left in the first, but the Colonials used an 8-3 run at the end of the half and held a 31-28 advantage at the break.
The Colonials led by as many as 14 in the second half.
