President Obama will sit down with Stephen Colbert on Monday night, just days before the Comedy Central host leaves the network to replace David Letterman on “The Late Show.”
Mr. Colbert announced the interview Thursday night, joking that he booked the most powerful man in the world by accident and had intended to book the rock band The Presidents of the United States of America.
“Unfortunately there was a bit of a mix-up and I did not book the band — I booked the actual president of the United States of America,” the host of “The Colbert Report” said. “Barack Obama is going to be my guest.”
Monday will mark Mr. Obama’s first appearance on Mr. Colbert’s show, a fixture on Comedy Central since 2005. Dec. 18will be Mr. Colbert’s last day as host of the long-running program, as he’ll move from Comedy Central to CBS and replace David Letterman behind “The Late Show” desk.
“I am so honored to be sitting down with the man who sat down with Bill O’Reilly,” joked Mr. Colbert, whose on-screen persona partly is parody of Mr. O’Reilly.
Mr. Colbert will conduct the interview during a taping at George Washington University.
