Wide receiver DeSean Jackson is questionable for the Washington Redskins’ game against St. Louis on Sunday after bruises on both of his legs kept him out of all three practices this week.
Jackson, who leads all receivers with an average of 20 yards per reception, was hurt in the Redskins’ loss to Indianapolis on Nov. 30.
“This is an injury where he needs rest and ice and treatment, so we’ve just got to make sure we do all the proper precautions to get him ready and steps that we have to take,” said coach Jay Gruden. “Hopefully, he’ll feel better tomorrow, and then come Sunday, he’ll be able to go, but if he’s not at full strength, then it will be a long shot for him to play.”
Jackson is one of five players who were listed as questionable on the Redskins’ injury report. Inside linebacker Keenan Robinson (sprained MCL in left knee), defensive end Jason Hatcher (sprained right knee), nose tackle Chris Baker (sprained right sternoclavicular joint) and cornerback E.J. Biggers (concussion) are also uncertain to play on Sunday, though Robinson was the only player who missed all of Friday’s practice.
Strong safety Brandon Meriweather, who sprained one of his big toes in the loss to the Colts, is considered doubtful, while cornerback Chase Minnifield (concussion) and defensive end Kedric Golston (strained lower back) have been ruled out.
If Meriweather cannot play, Phillip Thomas would make his first start in his place. Thomas played 24 snaps in place of Meriweather on Sunday and made five tackles, with one on special teams.
