Wizards starting small forward Paul Pierce left Wednesday night’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers late in the third quarter because of a jammed left big toe.

Pierce did not return. The veteran has not missed a game for the Wizards this season. He is day-to-day, according to coach Randy Wittman. Pierce said the same.

“Been feeling it the last couple days,” Pierce said. “Felt it in the third quarter. I got stepped on real hard and it was tough for me to come back and put pressure on it. It was very inflamed. Doing a little better right now. So, we’ll see how it feels the next couple days.”

The Wizards beat the Lakers, 111-95, Wednesday night. They host the Denver Nuggets on Friday before heading to Boston on Sunday and hosting the Celtics Dec. 8. Pierce is averaging 12.5 points in his first season with the Wizards.

“We’ll see how I feel, how it reacts,” Pierce said. “Get some anti-inflammatories. Maybe take the rest of the year off of practice — You hear that coach? — and just be ready for the games.”
