Unbelievably, Pennsylvania State University officials mailed a letter to convicted child molester Jerry Sandusky that asked if he wanted to renew his season tickets.
The letter, addressed to “Gerald A,” goes on to congratulate him as “being identified as one of the elite college football fans in the nation,” the New York Daily News reported.
The letter seems to be on Penn State letterhead, from the Nittany Lions athletic department and signed by head football coach James Franklin, the news outlet said. The text praises “Gerald A” for “work[ing] diligently to separate yourself by exhibiting unrivaled tenacity, character and loyalty. Passionate and competitive, you are the leading standard of a first class fan base,” the New York Daily News reported.
The letter also sends an invitation to visit the Penn State campus for an upcoming basketball game.
Social media posters, seeing the letter on www.FramingPaterno.com, expressed their disbelief.
One wrote, with the hashtag #awkwardmail: “That time when #PennState sent a season ticket renewal letter to Jerry Sandusky,” the New York Daily News said.
Sandusky, who served as an assistant football coach at Pennsylvania State University, was arrested in 2011 and charged with 52 counts of sexual abuse of young boys, between 1994 and 2009. He was found guilty in 2012 of 45 of the charges and sentenced to decades in prison.
