Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has been in engaging in quiet talks with key political insiders with experience and expertise in campaign management, several sources said to Politico.

Mrs. Clinton — who hasn’t yet announced a run for the White House, but is nevertheless wearing the presumptive Democratic Party candidate of choice label — just met with Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Executive Director Guy Cecil, Politico found. And Mr. Cecil is one of the two individuals named most frequently as the campaign manager for any 2016 run she might make, insiders said to the media outlet.

The talks were completely secret — but the Clinton-Cecil meeting came on the heels of another powwow she held with yet another talked-about potential campaign manager, Robby Mook, Politico reported. Mr. Mook helped with longtime Clinton family friend Terry McAuliffe’s 2013 run for governor of Virginia, and is also credited with working behind the scenes as an adviser for Mrs. Clinton’s trip to Iowa, in the lead up to the 2014 midterm elections, Politico reported.

Mr. Cecil, meanwhile, has worked with several of Mrs. Clinton’s staffers and insiders to draft her schedule for various Senate races and candidates in recent months. And one more note: Both Mr. Cecil and Mr. Mook served on Mrs. Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign, Politico reported.

It’s been speculated that one reason Mrs. Clinton has failed to announce her presidential run is to keep other candidates — like Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who’s emerged as the darling of the progressive wing — from securing key endorsements and financial backing.
