Russian President Vladimir Putin sent some New Year’s well-wishes President Obama’s way, reminding the U.S. leader of the two nations’ forged pact during World War II times and chiding that “world peace and stability” should be their shared goal.
The upcoming 70th anniversary of the allied victory in World War II is around the corner, and it should serve as a memory jog of “the responsibility that Russia and the United States bear for maintaining peace and international stability,” Mr. Putin said in a statement from Moscow, The Associated Press reported.
Itar-TASS, Russia’s media service, reported that Mr. Putin also reminded of “their special role in resisting global challenges and threats,” and that a U.S.-Russia alliance “might develop successfully with reliance on the principles of equality and mutual respect.”
The message comes as America and Russia are still suffering cooled relations over Mr. Putin’s aggression into Ukraine.
