SAN DIEGO, May 13, 2012 – Network TV executives from ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and the CW have revealed which of your favorite shows are being cancelled for the Fall 2013 TV season’s schedule, and which ones survived.
Network programming executives hold their “upfronts” this week, announcing their lineup which includes all the new series they have ordered, betting they will improve on the ratings of the cancelled shows.
NBC held its upfront meetings Sunday; the remainder are this week, but forget keeping things quiet until then. The bad news gets out hours or even days ahead of time. It’s no mistake. Get the bad news out quietly before the formal announcements over the weekend when no one is paying attention. Then the networks can focus on the bright, shiny new shows they hope will be hits.
In 2012, longtime fans of “CSI Miami” were furious about its surprise cancellation after ten years on CBS. They are still begging CBS to reconsider. Now “CSI: New York” is joining Horatio and friends on the cancelled list. Only the original Las Vegas based “CSI” remains on the air.
“Vegas” didn’t make the cut and has been cancelled. It’s shame to see actors like Michael Chiklis, Dennis Quaid, and Carrie-Anne Moss without a home next season.
NBC made its announcements with the exception of “Hannibal” and “The Celebrity Apprentice,” saying it would decide in the next few weeks. Donald Trump posted on Twitter that “Celebrity Apprentice” had indeed been renewed. We’ll see if he’s right.
The big question at ABC: whether “Dancing With The Stars” will take the fall off and return next spring after a ratings dip this year.

ABC: Body of Proof; Family Tools; Happy Endings; How to Live With Your Parents; Malibu Country, Red Widow. Two series cancelled earlier will run through their remaining episodes this summer. “Zero Hour” will return June 15 at 8 p.m. with two episodes, then air weekly through August 3. “Do No Harm” will return June 29 at 10 p.m.
CBS: CSI New York; Golden Boy, Rules of Engagement, Vegas. Cancelled earlier: Friend Me; The Job; Made in Jersey; Partners.
CW: 90210, Cult, Gossip Girl (final season).
Fox: The Cleveland Show; Fringe; Touch.
NBC: 1600 Penn; Deception; Go On; Guys With Kids; The New Normal; Up All Night; Smash; Whitney. Long term series ending this year including “30 Rock” and “The Office” (finale airs on Thursday, May 16). Still on the bubble with their fate unknown are “Hannibal” and “The Celebrity Apprentice.”
