Conservative Fox News talk show host Sean Hannity issued some sharp words about House Speaker John Boehner, outright calling for the ousting of his GOP leadership role and naming a new option: Rep. Trey Gowdy.

“[It’s] time for new dynamic leadership,” Mr. Hannity said during an interview with Breitbart News. “Trey Gowdy is my choice for speaker. He has the ability to articulate and implement the changes needed to get the country on the right path.”

Mr. Hannity said the nation needed someone who could steer the Republican Party down the right path on the federal budget, border security and immigration and energy development, The Hill reported.

“John Boehner has snubbed and ignored conservatives for too long as evidenced by the recent cromnibus budget deal he made with Obama, Reid and Hoyer,” Mr. Hannity said, The Hill reported. “It’s time he step aside for the good of the country and the conservative movement.”

Mr. Hannity’s hardly the only conservative voice calling for Mr. Boehner to step aside.

Mark Levin, conservative talk radio icon, wrote on his Facebook account: “GOP establishment a disastrous mess. Clean them out. Time for new leaders with conservative principles.”
