Sen. Marco Rubio said the New Year’s new Republican majority in the Senate was more than likely to bring something else new: more sanctions on Iran.

“I think we’ll have a supermajority, a veto-proof majority, to impose additional sanctions on Iran and to require the administration to come before Congress for approval of any deal that [President Obama] has with Iran,” Mr. Rubio said during an interview with NPR. “I think the same is true of the Keystone pipeline, potentially.”

Mr. Rubio said the proposed new sanctions could come any hour, Politico reported.

The Florida Republican also said in a separate interview with New York Times Magazine that his party doesn’t need to consider amnesty to achieve political success for 2016.

“Those who argue that this [immigration reform] will be a bonanza for Republicans are not telling the truth,” he said, Politico reported. “Those who argue that we should do it for the purpose of politics are also mis-analyzing the issue.”

Mr. Rubio also said the political winds show that those who entered the country illegally yet obtained green cards could very well be banned from achieving actual citizenship.
