Tony Blair, former prime minister of England, took some brutal social media hits for his tweeted husband-wife photo Christmas card that showed him in an awkwardly strained pose.

A spokesman for Mr. Blair and his wife, Cherie, told CNN the card was never intended to be released to the public. But it was — and the Twitter world had some fun at their expense.

One wrote: “I like how Tony Blair’s Christmas card is really nice and definitely not terrifying/the stuff of nightmares.”

And another: “Perhaps the oddest thing about Tony Blair’s threatening Christmas card is that this must have been the BEST photo …”

And one more posted a slightly altered photo that reddened Mr. Blair’s eyes and dripped blood from his lips next to this message: “Well I think you lot are all being really horrible about Tony Blair’s Halloween card.”

Mr. Blair’s office said that only “friends and colleagues” received the card, and that someone from that group must have posted it online, NBC News reported.
