A portion of Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the John A. Wilson Building will be closed intermittently from early Thursday to Friday to accommodate for crowds expected to attend a public viewing for former mayor Marion Barry.

There will be closures on Pennsylvania Avenue in Northwest between 12th Street and 14th Street from 8 a.m. to midnight Thursday and again from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m Friday, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

The District’s city hall will be the site of a public viewing for Mr. Barry, who died Nov. 23 at the age of 78.

Visitors will be able to pay respects while Mr. Barry lies in repose from 9 a.m. to midnight Thursday and from 6 a.m. until 9 a.m. Friday. A motorcade procession will transports his body to Temple of Praise in Southeast D.C. Friday morning, resulting in more rolling street closures.

The procession was initially expected to travel through all eight wards on its way to the church, but organizers said the route may be scaled back and is not yet confirmed.

There will also be intermittent closures of L Street Northwest, between 7th and 9th Street in Northwest, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. outside the Washington Convention Center, where a public viewing and memorial service will be held.
