For more than 60 years, the Democrats have been establishing themselves as the anti-Constitution party.

In 1950, President Truman went to war in Korea without seeking authorization from Congress. He claimed that the commander in chief had an inherent constitutional authority to send troops anywhere, at any time. In 1965, President Johnson used his Tonkin Gulf trick to go to war in Vietnam. Although many in Congress felt deceived, he never sought a clear authorization for his war. In 2011, President Obama went to war in Libya without fulfilling the requirements of the War Powers Resolution.

Mr. Obama has been unilaterally rewriting the Affordable Care Act. He recently, in his words, “took action to change” an immigration law. He declared that Congress had not done what he wanted and that gave him the right to act on his own. Legally, this is preposterous. On many other occasions, Mr. Obama said publicly that he did not have the authority to change immigration law.

England’s King Henry VIII always claimed to act within the law. So did Germany’s Adolf Hitler. Is the United States becoming a dictatorship?
