It’s not exactly a team of rivals, but New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Tuesday put forward two nominees with ties to major national Democrats to serve on the Rutgers University Board of Governors — including one who founded a group that tried to defeat Republican legislative candidates in the state last year.
Mr. Christie nominated Susan McCue, who served as chief of staff to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Nevada Democrat, and helped launch Senate Majority PAC, the leading outside spending group backing Senate Democrats this cycle.
Philly.com reported that she also launched the Fund for Jobs, Growth, and Security, a super PAC that supported Democrats in 2013 state legislative races, and serves on the board of American Bridge 21st Century, a liberal super PAC that collects opposition research on Republicans.
Mr. Christie also nominated Mark Angelson, a former deputy mayor of Chicago who served under Democratic Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
“Both nominees are well-recognized Rutgers graduates,” Christie spokesman Michael Drewniak said in an e-mail to Philly.com. “They also possess deep experience in public service, public policy, and in business, all of which will serve the university well at this time of extraordinary growth and change.”
