An American teacher working at a Dubai school was stabbed to death by an attacker who was wearing a black robe, gloves and full-faced veil, police said.

A just-posted statement on the Abu Dhabi Interior Ministry’s website said the victim was actually stabbed on Monday with a sharp tool that police then confiscated, The Associated Press reported. The teacher was a 37-year-old American woman, but her name hasn’t yet been made public, AP said.

She had 11-year-old twins, though, and they’re now in the custody of police until the father — the victim’s ex-husband — arrives from overseas, AP reported.

Col. Rashid Borshid, who heads up the Criminal Investigation Department, said the attacker is still at large, while police continue to seek motives — as well as any identifying information about the suspect, including the gender.

“The Abu Dhabi police will spare no effort in order to unveil this heinous crime and bring the culprit to justice,” Col. Borshid said, AP reported.

The U.S. Embassy in the United Arab Emirates said it is aware of the incident.
