A gun-carrying good Samaritan made a citizen’s arrest Friday on a man he says attacked a female passenger at a North Texas intersection.

Witnesses in Southlake reported seeing a man standing in the middle of the street at Carroll Avenue and Southlake Boulevard, pointing a gun at the driver of a red vehicle, a local CBS affiliate reported.

Southlake Police Chief Steve Mylett said the man had witnessed the driver of the red vehicle hitting his female passenger. When both cars stopped, the man allegedly confronted the driver at gunpoint because he believed the female to be in imminent danger, NBC’s local affiliate reported.

Police arrived and arrested the driver, 28-year-old MacMichael Nwaiwu. They have not released the name of the good Samaritan, but say he has a permit to carry a concealed handgun.

“While we commend this citizen’s willingness to get involved in order to protect a victim of a crime, the Southlake Police Department does not encourage the public to expose themselves in such a manner,” Chief Mylett said in a statement.

Still, witnesses were impressed by the good Samaritan’s willingness to put himself in danger for the safety of others.

“It’s amazing that in this day in age that people are willing to reach out and help,” said Mistina Doland, who witnessed the standoff, CBS reported.

“I hope more people see this and are willing to go the extra mile for someone who like this woman, didn’t have a voice and couldn’t speak up for herself,” said her sister, Lindsey Bryant.
