A day after Christmas, Wizards point guard John Wall and New York Knicks forward Quincy Acy will do some more giving.
Wall was fined $15,000 and Acy was suspended for one game without pay for their altercation with 5:31 remaining in Thursday’s game between the Wizards and Knicks.
Acy charged at Wall and sternly knocked him to the ground at the right elbow. Wall rose back to his feet and shoved Acy. Nene and Kris Humphries stepped in between the two after it appeared Acy was ready to throw a punch and hit Wall with his right arm. Acy was ejected from the game and Wall received a technical.
Wall was fined “pushing Acy and escalating the incident,” according to the NBA.
Wall said he was concerned about receiving another technical and being ejected from the game, so he decided to walk away from a still fuming Acy. The game had been chippy prior. Knicks center Cole Aldrich and power forward Amar’e Stoudemire had a physical afternoon with Humphries, Nene and Gortat. New York point guard Pablo Prigioni played his usual style, clipping other players with his hips and constantly swiping at them.
“I don’t know what led up to it,” Wall said. “I knew after the push, I’d probably get a tech. After that, I didn’t want to do anything more to jeopardize myself, jeopardize my team with 5:31 (remaining in the game). I just wanted to stay calm.”
The Wizards won, 102-91, snapping a two-game losing streak. They host the Boston Celtics on Saturday night.
Acy will serve his suspension on Saturday, Dec. 27, when the Knicks travel to Sacramento to play the Kings at Sleep Train Arena.
