In the wake of a cyberattack that U.S. officials are pinning on North Korea, U.S. officials are working to make sure the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) Santa tracker is fully operational heading into the holiday.
“We are confident the system will work,” Maj. Beth Smith, a NORAD spokeswoman, told the Wall Street Journal.
“Their anti-Grinch firewall is up and monitoring for threats, and they are confident that the AGFW, anti-Grinch firewall, can defeat any malicious attacks,” Pentagon press secretary Rear Adm. John Kirby said recently.
Recent tensions with North Korea have given way to Sony Pictures reversing its decision to quash the release of “The Interview” and release the comedy film depicting the assassination of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to a limited number of theaters on Christmas.
Maj. Smith didn’t say whether NORAD will be showing a video of Santa visiting the Korean Peninsula.
“We don’t speak for Santa. Santa determines where Santa goes,” Maj. Smith said.
