JetBlue is offering police departments around the nation the opportunity to send personnel to the funerals of New York City Police Officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos — free of charge.
The airline is offering to fly in two police officers from each department along its routes to New York for the funerals of Officers Liu and Ramos, who were killed Saturday in an ambush attack by Ismaaiyl Brinsley, CNN reported Wednesday.
The company said in a statement that its flights are available “to law enforcement agencies across our route network who wish to send representatives to New York to support their brethren … We are accepting up to two officers from each department (space permitting),” CNN reported.
The funeral for Officer Ramos will be held Saturday at Christ Tabernacle Church in Glendale, The Associated Press reported. Family members for Officer Liu are flying to the U.S. from China and arrangements will be finalized after their arrival.
CNN reported that JetBlue is working with its partners to cover the cost of flying family members to the New York funerals.
The NYPD’s 25th Precinct in Manhattan promptly thanked JetBlue for the gesture.
