The son of Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel was beaten and robbed on Friday night across the street from his family’s home, and was left with a chipped tooth and a fat lip.
The incident occurred around 10 p.m. when Zach Emanuel stepped outside to make a phone call and was assaulted, a source told the Chicago Sun-Times on Saturday.
Two people rifled through Zach’s pockets and stole his cell phone before fleeing the scene, police said.
Although the teen was left battered after the attack, no weapon was used in the incident, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
Mr. Emanuel is “crestfallen” over the incident involving his son, the source said.
Earlier this week Mr. Emanuel joked about his relationship with his son when asked about his family’s upcoming holiday trip to Chile.
“This is Zach’s last year before he goes off to college — if I don’t kill him before he goes there. But that’s a side note. That has nothing to do with the vacation. That just deals with having a teenaged boy at home,” the mayor said, the Sun-Times reported.
