CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — Three oil field service companies have agreed to pay $1.2 million to settle a complaint filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission alleging that some employees were subjected to ethnic slurs.

K2 Radio reports (https://bit.ly/15NMGGh) that the EEOC sued Dart Energy, Beckman Production Services and J&R Well Service last year.

The federal agency alleged some employees of the companies used racial and ethnic slurs against Native American, black and Hispanic employees.

U.S. District Judge Scott Skavdahl of Casper approved a settlement agreement Monday. It calls for the companies to pay $955,000 to 17 individual employees and $245,000 to their lawyers.

The companies don’t admit any violation of the law. They agreed not to discriminate on the basis of race and not to retaliate against employees who report discrimination.
