Republican Gov.-elect Larry Hogan of Maryland will be among six newly elected governors to meet with President Obama at the White House on Friday.

Mr. Hogan will be joined by incoming Republican governors Bruce Rauner of Illinois, who defeated Obama ally Gov. Pat Quinn; Greg Abbott of Texas and Charlie Baker of Massachusetts; Democratic Gov.-elect Tom Wolf of Pennsylvania and Gov. Bill Walker of Alaska, a former Republican who ran as an independent.

A White House spokesman said Arkansas Gov.-elect Asa Hutchinson, a Republican, won’t be attending the meeting but didn’t say why.

White House press secretary Josh Earnest said the president will discuss with the incoming governors “ways in which the administration can partner with states in promoting economic opportunity and expanding security for middle-class Americans.”

Vice President Joseph R. Biden also will attend the meeting.
