The enemy of my enemy is my friend: American-made F-4 Phantom jets purchased by Iran prior to 1979’s Islamic Revolution are now being used in airstrikes against the Islamic State group.
Iraqi ground troops in Diyala province were supported by the Iranian air force’s strikes, CBS reported Tuesday.
The Pentagon says it has not coordinated with Iran on any military operations inside Iraq. The Iranians are flying in a region of the country absent of U.S. military personnel.
The U.S. Army will be sending 1,500 extra troops to Iraq by the end of December, 250 of which will come from the 82nd Airborne Division based out of Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
President Obama authorized the increased troop presence Nov. 7.
